Amman – the capital of Jordan, is a fascinating city of contrasts “a unique blend of old and new”, ideally situated on a hilly area between the desert and the fertile Jordan Valley. In the commercial heart of the city, ultra-modern buildings, hotels, smart restaurants, art galleries and boutiques rub shoulders comfortably with traditional coffee shops and tiny artisans’ workshops. Everywhere there is evidence of the city’s much older past.
Visit Amman downtown market and city center, it’s traditional souks, restaurants selling local food and sweets, churches and mosques. Amman is also the ancient city of Philadelphia with its Roman Theater and many other monuments that can be visited like the Citadel. Then drive to the other side of the city where you can see the pubs, international restaurants, and discotheques as you become familiar with the contrast between old and traditional, to the new and modern.
